SCREENING AND EVALUATION

KINDERGARTEN

Applicants for Kindergarten must be five years old by September 1. In the spring, members of the Saint Raphael faculty will screen each kindergarten applicant on an individual basis. The screening process takes approximately thirty minutes and is stress free. It provides us with an opportunity to meet your child and to determine their readiness for our Kindergarten program.

Please note: While our screening process is important, it only provides us with a "snapshot" of your child’s capabilities on a given day. For this reason, we ask for your child’s preschool teacher to provide us with a recommendation for your child. This allows us to have a more comprehensive evaluation, which will allow us to have a better understanding of your child’s needs.

GRADES 1-8

The teacher of their incoming grade level will evaluate applicants for grades one through eight. The evaluation process includes grade level appropriate testing in Language Arts and Mathematics. Previous standardized tests, report cards, and a recommendation from your child’s current teacher are required. All of this information will be evaluated, allowing us to have a better understanding of your child’s needs and to determine his or her ability to work on a level that is on a par with Saint Raphael students.
